Overall, I found Britt’s essay to be humorous, but also dry and exaggerated. Her use of humor allows the reader to see the situation from a new perspective, and also highlights the differences between neat and sloppy people.
The American Revolution and the subsequent creation of the American nation are historically regarded as the first milestones in the fight against European imperialism. While this is true in many respects (e.g. rebalancing power of power in Europe, integration of ethnically-diverse populations under one flag, etc.), the Revolutionary War and the subsequent creation of the American state had adversely impacted Indian nations politically, economically, and socially.
On the political side, the continued westward expansion of the American state brought it into conflict with Indian nations, resulting to the decimation of many communities and the massive transfer of political power from the hinterlands to Washington. On the economic side, the subsequent creation and expansion of the American state, mainly as a
In “Death and Justice: How Capital Punishment Affirms Life”, former New York Mayor Edward Koch argues in favor of the legalization of the death penalty in New York, claiming that it would save more innocent lives. Koch provides compelling evidence in the form of statistics and real-world examples of murderers who have avoided the death penalty and gone on to kill again. However, he does not consider the possibility that the death penalty could be wrongfully applied, and that an innocent person could be put to death. Furthermore, he does not take into account the emotional toll that the death penalty would take on the families of victims. In the end, I agree with Koch that the death penalty should be legal, but only if the family of the victim
The death penalty is an inhumane punishment that should be abolished in the United States. The high costs that come with capital punishment are a definite con when you consider the comparison of this type of case vs normal cases. Cases in which the death penalty is gone after are more expensive and take more time to solve than non-capital cases. The added money is due to legal representation, enhanced security for death row, and the costs it takes to go through the motions of a trial such as this. ‘The additional cost of confining an inmate to death row, as compared to the maximum security prisons where those sentenced to life without possibility of parole ordinarily serve their sentences, is $90,000 per year per inmate”. With California
In the play “The Crucible,” Abigail Williams is one of the main characters. She is a young girl who is very deceitful, vengeful, and selfish. Abigail is motivated by her own interests, which often conflict with those of other characters. For example, she accuses Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft in order to be with John Proctor, even though it results in the death of many innocent people. Abigail’s character is very important in driving the plot of the play.
The Crucible is a play based on a true story by Arthur Miller. It is set in 1692, in a small village called Salem, which, Due to a series of events started to have witch trials. The story counts with many changes leading to an inflection point where Salem starts to fall in decadence. John Proctor is a character who had an affair in the Crucible. His decision to have an affair with Abigail Williams changed Salem inhabitants’ life. While the causes of the affair are believed to be multiple, the main reason was Elizabeth’s cold aptitude to Proctor. In the final act, when John and Elizabeth are talking she alludes to some possible issues that prompted the affair. She
Overall, the essay makes a strong argument for the benefits of legalizing abortions. It cites many reasons why abortions should not be banned, chief among them being that women will resort to dangerous methods to terminate their own pregnancies without medical help. The essay also makes a strong case for the right of women to make their own decisions about their own bodies.
I thought this essay was very well written. It makes some very valid points in favour of online learning. I also liked the way it addressed the potential drawbacks of online learning, and showed how they can be overcome.
Overall, the essay does a good job of highlighting the history of the LGBTQ+ movement and the various leaders and activists who have fought for equal rights over the years. The author also provides some good insights into the challenges that the movement continues to face, as well as the ways in which it has succeeded in making progress. However, I felt that the essay could have been more effectively organized, and that it lacked a clear thesis statement or central argument.
Overall, I thought this essay did a good job of discussing the various ways businesses market their products and services in the digital era. I particularly liked the section on how social media has leveled the playing field for companies of all sizes. However, I think the essay could have been more concise and focused. Additionally, I would have liked to see more discussion of the implications of the digital era on advertising and consumer behavior.
