In his essay, “The Need to Change the Cycle of Toxic Masculinity,” the author posits that the roots of toxic masculinity in the United States begin early, when boys are conditioned to believe in their own dominance and suppress their emotions. He argues that this can lead to severe depression in young men, and that to help our young men we need to erase the outdated gender norms that lead to them not addressing their emotions.
